“Generational Love‘’ Circa 1948-49 Existing photography + mixed media
I love this image of my great grandmother, my grandma aka Cookie and my dad probably around age 2, the first of 4 kids. All dressed up looking so glamorous and beautiful. I wonder where they are off to, a lunch in New York City perhaps. I wish I had more time with Cookie, I adored her and always encouraged my creative side, helping me with costumes so I could put on some sort of performance after our big family dinners when we visit them in NJ. Unfortunately, she passed from breast cancer when I was 12. The times I did get to see her when she got sick was confusing, sad, heartbreaking.
Exploring these old photos when she was young, a new mother, and with that beautiful smile fills me up. She was damn strong and that carried down the line to my aunts, me and my cousins.
My dad was a cutie as a Bub!
